We are currently facing a lot of challenges battling climate change, however, this doesn’t mean it’s all doom and gloom.
We want to highlight and showcase some regular people doing some extraordinary things to help make the planet a better place. We want to showcase everything from school kids creating a podcast to tackle climate change to an ex-dairy farmer paving the way for vegan chocolate!
Inner-city Bristol children tackle climate change with a podcast
Our first piece of climate change good news comes from some children from inner-city Bristol who have been making their own climate change podcast, giving an insight into how they think, feel, see and dream.
The Freedom Kids Podcast is a show made by children aged five to 13 years old, who play at Felix Road Adventure Playground in Easton.
Produced by Eastside Community Trust, each episode explores a different topic including air quality and food.
We think this is amazing, and it really gives us hope that the younger generations will take the torch and keep fighting to save the planet from climate change.

Yorkshire animal sanctuary rescues animals that are in need!
Our next piece of climate change good news comes from two vegan animal activists who have opened an animal sanctuary to rescue animals in need.
Millington’s Magical Barn was started five years ago when owner Jake Ratcliffe used his life savings to create the sanctuary. The rescues that inhabit his barn have been saved from abuse, neglect or even worse – slaughter.
Jake and his partner Rosie look after nearly 70 animals, all rescues. Sanctuary life is expensive for both Jake and Rosie. Feed, vetting, medication, rent, transport, fruit & veg, maintenance – the list could go on and on and it soon becomes a hefty monthly outgoing!
With the help and support of people, more animals can be rescued from abuse, neglect and slaughter and live the rest of their lives in peace.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Millington’s Magical barn was in the process of applying to become a registered UK charity. To help them get there, you can actually donate, buy food, or even sponsor an animal.

Ex-dairy farmer creates climate-friendly ethical vegan chocolate!
Zsolt Stefkovics, a 28 year old ex-dairy farmer turned vegan, started an ethical chocolate company called Fellow Creatures.
Based in Edinburgh, Fellow creatures produces Ethical, plant-based chocolate in five flavours and two sizes. They have also recently added Wowza, a premium twist on Nutella with 53 percent freshly roasted hazelnut and coconut blossom sugar.
Being born in a dairy-farming family in Hungary, Zsolt was raised drinking dairy and eating meat. As a kid, deep down, he always felt that the exploitation of animals just wasn’t right.
Ever since becoming vegan, the only thing Zsolt missed was true creamy smooth milk chocolate. After trying all the vegan chocolates about, he set out to create one he remembers fondly from his childhood.
So how do Fellow Creatures help climate change?
We all know chocolate can have a large carbon footprint, but to help reduce this, Fellow Creatures have removed animals completely from their supply chain. They are also committed to paying their farmers 60 per cent over commodity price for their cocoa. With this, they are contributing to the creation of sustainable jobs and alleviating poverty in deprived cocoa communities in West Africa.
The long-term vision of Fellow Creatures is to be able to invest a portion of profits back into our farming communities in Ghana. With ambitious growth plans to become the UK’s leading vegan chocolate brand, they hope to play a part in building a more sustainable chocolate industry for the future.
